COMBAT COLLECTIVE: NORTHERN ROOTS

Muay Thai and Wellness Retreat,Chiang Mai, Thailand

Next Retreat: (UK School Holiday) Oct 25 – Nov 2

the journey begins here

Focus, reflect and be fully present

Welcome to Combat Collective: Northern Roots! Not only is this our first ever all-inclusive retreat, set in the rice fields and mountains of Chiang Mai, this is something completely different to what we’ve offered before.

Northern Roots is about stepping away from typical fast-paced living and really immersing yourself in Muay Thai, local culture and your own personal journey. We will still be training hard and challenging ourselves in the usual Combat Collective spirit, but Northern Roots will add another layer, working on mind and body in a more intentional, immersive way.

Alongside regular Muay Thai training, you’ll spend time learning the traditions, visiting temples, cooking local food and experiencing the beauty of Northern Thailand’s landscape.. With fewer distractions and a quieter setting, Northern Roots creates space to focus, reflect and be fully present.

You’ll learn a lot more about Muay Thai and Thai culture.. but just as important, you’ll learn a lot about yourself along the way.

Our First Ever All-inclusive Retreat

Northern Roots is Combat Collective’s first fully all-inclusive retreat, allowing you to relax completely and focus on the experience.

Everything is taken care of from airport transfers to ALL meals. so you can fully switch off and focus on your journey! *flight not included

Culture Beyond the Gym

Northern Roots goes far beyond training.

This retreat is designed for women who want to fully immerse themselves in Thai culture, not just Muay Thai culture.

  • Temple visits with local insight
  • Traditional Thai cooking class- going to the market to see where the produce is from, then learning to prepare the authentic Thai dishes.
A New Experience

Going Deeper into Muay Thai

Northern Roots is especially suited to women who want to explore the traditions and meaning behind Muay Thai, not just the physical side.

Included workshops:

Wai Kru workshop: learning the ritual in detail and its background
Muay Thai rules & judging workshop: understanding how fights are scored and what judges look for.
Mongkol-making workshop: creating your own traditional Muay Thai headpiece.

You’ll also attend a local fight night to experience Muay Thai in its natural setting. For those who are interested, there is also the opportunity to fight on fight night, arranged in advance for suitable participants.

Who is this retreat for?

Northern Roots is for women who are craving something a little different. This retreat is for you if you’re looking for:

  • A secluded, private reset away from noise and distractions
  • A more intentional, immersive experience (without slowing things down)
  • A deeper connection to Thai culture alongside training
  • Authentic Muay Thai in nature, with more sessions and more focus
  • Space to reflect, ground yourself and properly sink into the experience

Whether you’ve trained for years or you’re ready for a more meaningful step in your journey, Northern Roots is about going deeper, together. All levels are welcome.

THE NORTHERN ROOTS EXPERIENCE

Price: £2299 (Installment plan available)

About the Gym:

Gym Bangarang (100% female owned gym)

Northern Roots is hosted at Gym Bangarang, a beautifully secluded Muay Thai gym tucked away among the rice fields of Chiang Mai.

Surrounded by mountains, open skies and nature, Gym Bangarang offers a stripped-back training environment that reflects the true roots of Muay Thai. It’s calm, peaceful and intentionally removed from distractions- allowing you to fully immerse yourself in training, culture and the experience of being present.

When Combat Collective founder Kaz Crossley first visited Gym Bangarang in 2019, she instantly fell in love with the location, the warmth of the hospitality and the grounded energy of the gym. It left a lasting impression so fast forward a few years, it felt like the perfect place to bring “Northern Roots” to life!

A huge reason we chose Gym Bangarang is that it is a 100% female-owned gym, something that deeply aligns with everything Combat Collective stands for. Training here supports women in combat sports at every level, while creating an environment where women feel welcomed, respected and encouraged.

Gym Bangarang is a place to slow down, train with purpose and reconnect with what Muay Thai is really about.
